Her original, full name was: Melissa Kayla Yagami, but it has been rechristened to: Kayla Yagami "Hedgehog"(Hedgehog through marriage) Due to a few reasons I've mentioned before.

Kayla(23) is the daughter of Kayla Sr.(Deceased) and Damon Yagami, and foster daughter of Chief Kain and Coraline(Both Deceased) of the Sandmoon Tribe. She also has a half-brother named Akito Yagami, and was unaware of his existance until she was captured when she was a teenager.

She has been orphaned twice in her lifetime, her father having left after she was born, her mother and maternal grandparents killed in a village raid; her foster parents found her among the corpses of her dead family, and adopted her as their own daughter. They were killed roughly 15 years later after their tribe was attacked and slaughtered by one of Dr. Robotnik's Sub-Bosses' robots stationed in the kingdom of Furcadia. The Sub Boss was still fighting for control of the kingdom, long after Robotnik's defeat.

As Kayla witnessed the death of her foster parents and family, she went berserk, and destroyed an entire forest with a fiery blast, consuming everyone and everything within the raging inferno. Kayla was found within the scorched forest by Robotnik's Sub-Boss, and taken to a camp where Furcadian Mobians were put into forced labor to make better weapons for Robotnik's Empire. This was to break the spirits of the prisoners, and those that refused were roboticized.

Kayla unwillingly obliged to the labor to keep herself alive, but her thirst for revenge spurred her to plot a coup against the Sub Boss with some followers. Kayla had met her father, and half-brother Akito at the camp, whom both agreed to follow her with the plot to overthrow the Sub Boss. During the planning, Damon had made several comments that Kayla looked a lot like a woman he once knew 15 years ago, and that they both had the same name. She pretty much ignored his remarks, as the only family she remembers were her foster parents and the Sandmoon Tribe. His suspicion confirms when she mentions that her foster mother, Coraline, told her when she was younger, that she found her in a small village that had been massacred named Emerald Vine.

Damon was convinced that she was his daughter, and even gave her a picture that he kept close to his heart of Kayla's biological mother, and a picture of when she was a tiny puppy. At first it took her a long time to generally accept the fact that the ferret was indeed, her biological father; but when she DID accept, she became furious as she had felt abandoned by Damon because he didn't actually seek her out when she was growing up with the tribe. Her rage had blown the cover of the coup, and she and her followers were placed in solitary confinement to be roboticized later. While in confinement, Kayla found peace in the form of her half-brother, Akito, whom she bonded well with, and didn't blame him for their father's actions.

Before they were turned into robots, one of Kayla's followers had managed to send a distress message to the Knothole Freedom Fighters days before the incident, and had arrived at the "death" camp to put an end to the Sub Boss' tyranny. After his defeat, Kayla wanted to return to the Kingdom of Acorn with the freedom fighters, as she wanted a fresh start in her life; for Furcadia held too many painful memories for her to remain. After saying goodbye to Akito, Kayla left with the FF to begin anew.

Kayla made her home somewhere in the Great Forest, away from the FF, as she needed time to reflect upon her past sins, and discipline herself to not lose control of her emotions. For when she becomes so enraged, her pyrokinetic abilities turn into an incredible force of nature, threatening to engulf anything within the flames. She trained hard and rigorously, relying upon herself: Wits, Cunning, and Physical Strength for survival, rather than just her elemental powers.

Kayla became an "unofficial" Freedom Fighter member, though she wasn't actually affiliated with the group. She will, however, come to their aid whenever she is called for. Over the years, she found herself at odds personality-wise with Sonic the Hedgehog, whom has been trying to get her to loosen up a bit, and not dwell on the past so much. She eventually does, with a lot of encouragement, and becomes more light-hearted; though still retaining her somewhat serious nature. Sonic treated Kayla like a little sister at times, and she treated him like a brother; getting on each others nerves on various situations. The friendship they shared eventually turned into love, even though the two still kind of tease each other back and forth as they "argue" over trivial things like the kind of food that they'll eat for the evening (Kayla isn't that big of a fan for chili dogs). They've remained a couple even after the events of The Grim(Where Kayla is possessed by Mammoth Mogul's servant, Tiamat), and eventually tied the knot after Sonic finds out (somewhat humorously), that she was pregnant.

Sonic and Kayla weren't exactly sure if they were ready to be parents, and often had doubts of their abilities to be such, but with the support of Sonic's own mother and father, the two agreed that they would raise the baby as best as they could. The fact that he loved her, and that he was going to be a father, drove him on thoughts of proposal some months later. He was going to pop the question during a visit to his parents home with expecting Kayla in tow, but his window of opportunity was shattered when she went into labor. Out of panic, and the sheer fact that he didn't know wha the Hell he was doing, Sonic asked her to marry him during labor, which he was rewarded with a blatant look of confusion from Kayla, and the classic "WTF?" response. She was too much in pain to really understand what he was asking, and the thought dawned upon her after she had successfully given birth to their son.

After the the couple shared several moments of bonding with their newborn, whom Kayla named Maxwell after her foster father's brother, Maxwell, she accepts his proposal, much to Sonic's happiness. After Kayla recovered, the two were married by King Elias Acorn, and Max was welcomed into New Mobotropolis' community with open arms. Roughly three years after the wedding, Kayla was forced recruited into the Royal Secret Service as "punishment" for Tiamat's crimes while she was still inhabited in her body. She reluctantly agreed to this, but is generally angry at frequency of the summons by the Council of Acorn; this interfered with spending time with her family, and she made her displeasure known several times to the council. Most of the council feel empathy for her current situation, as it wasn't her fault that Tiamat committed the crimes, and tarnished her reputation in the Republic of Acorn. However, Hamlin felt as if she should be locked up for life for the atrocities, and it's very clear that he doesn't like her, or her husband, Sonic.

Kayla serves as the "muscle" of the RSS, as she physically surpasses all of the agents of the group. She's also a skilled tactician, after learning a thing or two from Princess Sally.


Kayla's fighting style is similar to Shootboxing, and Muay Thai. Though she is skilled in punches, her true physical strength are in her legs. She utilizes her leg power to quickly take out her opponents through submission, or if they are inorganic opponents (such as robots), she destroys them without mercy. Living and training in the forest, she can easily scale rough-surfaced walls/trees/etc. Kayla is also equipped with sharp claws that she also uses in her own self defense, blinding her opponent by slashing their faces before taking them down if the opportunity presents itself. She is also wields the power of fire, but rarely uses it unless her life, or the life of a loved one is in danger.

Personality wise, Kayla at one time, preferred to be alone to atone for her past sins. She isn't really a joker, and her temperment could be described as of the "Serious" nature. When she fell in love with Sonic, her personality slowly began to shift, as his light-hearted attitude affected, and rubbed off onto her; she still retains her dignity of being an individual not to be toyed around with, Kayla will often show her silly side when she's alone with her family and friends. She has a strong sense of loyalty, and duty, and she is willing to put her life on the line for her son (and her daughter later on), and those that have shown her kindness. She is still "haunted" by Tiamat in her dreams, remembering the people she was forced to murder under the demigod's influence.

Before her son was born, Kayla wore a black-sleeved, white, midriff shirt, black and white boots, and spiked collars/bracers on her wrists and neck. Currently, she wears a brown jacket and pack belt, with a dark blue leotard. She's seldom seen wearing earrings, and her wedding ring is always worn on her finger.
